Inspired by Nina Simone's song "Four Women" (1966), this series serves as a deterrent against negative stereotypes that African-American women still face by illustrating them through a delicate lens with a unique perspective.
To create this series, I illustrated monochromatic vectorized shapes, silhouetting their shapes with implied lines to orchestrate fields of tints, shades and hues to mimic depths of highlights and shadows. Each flower is symbolic to each of the muse’s personality, thus encouraging audience members to nurture, grow, and protect the women that they have in their lives.
